Although the coronavirus is facilitating us to practice social distancing to flatten the curve, physical and mental wellness remains a top priority, especially for weight loss surgery patients. Dr. Nguyen and the staff at Lifetime Surgical Weight Loss are here to help you stay on track towards achieving or maintaining your weight loss goals. Having an 8pm curfew does create additional stressors along with businesses being closed.

Toilet paper may be absent from the shelves, but as of now, chips, cookies, and other highly processed, non-perishables are still present. These are clearly not bariatric friendly during the lockdown (or at any point).
What is bariatric friendly during coronavirus?
If a shortage of fresh produce and meat occurs, frozen items are perfectly safe and nutritious to eat. Frozen vegetables, frozen low-glycemic fruits (such as mixed berries), and frozen meats such as chicken breasts do not lose any of their nutrients during the freezing process.
The only thing you need to check for when purchasing frozen foods is that there are no added ingredients such as sugars or fats- that bag of frozen broccoli might actually be a garlic cheddar broccoli side dish.
Luckily, there is no shortage of healthy recipes online geared towards frozen foods. Taco cauliflower rice skillet for dinner? Sounds good to us!
Go Nuts
Opt for nut milks, such as unsweetened almond milk. These non-dairy options have a longer shelf life than traditional dairy milk and are lower in carbohydrates and calories. Although oat milk is gaining popularity as a non-dairy option, some brands can have around 20 grams of sugar and 120 calories per serving. Make sure to select a brand that is unsweetened if you aren’t a fan of nut based milks.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][vc_column_text]What about workouts?
With gyms and fitness centers closed, it’s time to get creative. There are two main options: live streaming services, or getting outside.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_row_inner row_type=”row” type=”grid” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UItWltVZZmE” align=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]

WFH (work from home) has become the new norm. With the tv ten feet away, it is tempting to catch soap operas and reach for your kid’s bag of chips. Avoid this scenario by doing the following:
- Be sure to get proper sleep (7-9 hours) which will keep you alert and focused through the work day
- Eat meals at consistent times
- Write down your physical activity times on the calendar.
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]
Doing these activities will keep your mental health and physical health in check. This will help create a sense of normalcy for your mental health and keep you on track for your weight loss needs.
Mandatory curfews at home can cause feelings of isolation and anxiety. However, with these tips, we can reduce the risk of unwanted weight gain and new stress. At Lifetime Surgical Weight Loss, we strive to foster a sense of community amongst our patients- especially during this time period.
